I have to admit never having been to Baja despite living in that part of the country for awhile. It definitely needs to go on the list! Love that you have your pups with you as well. We're trying to figure out how to comfortably bring our 140lb Newfy on the boat with us when we go cruising long-term. It's a process for sure!

Wow! That’s a big dog! We sailed with our two previous dogs throughout the Pacific, Med, and Caribbean and we love traveling with our dogs. Planning a trip to Europe in the fall and renting an RV there. Hopefully, flying with our pups will be as easy as it used to be🤞

He IS a big dog! As a result we’re looking at motor yachts since a sailboat that can accommodate him would be waaaaaay out of our price range. Looking at a cool older one from the 60s now … we’ll see!

Baja is so amazing. I miss it, especially when I see these photos. Heading south again in a year. Enjoy the peace & quiet!

As I continue to be an armchair traveler, I really enjoyed SEEING the whales up close and personal. The highlight of my Galapagos adventure 20 years ago was snorkeling with sea lions, as one nuzzled my face mask. I guess with my mustache, I was mistaken for one of them? Your whale video was as clear and intimate as your writing. Fair winds and following seas. I think we might share March as a perfect birthday month? This time around, I reach a prime year mathematically (I don't think a mere youthful 72 is mathematically prime, but a very good vintage). Thanks, Christine.

I love your story about the sea lion nuzzling your face. I went scuba diving with sea lions once off Santa Cruz Island (one of California's Channel Islands) but they just zoomed around me in the kelp forest.

This post resonated Christine! Just back from the Galapagos, where all creatures seem to look you in the eye! No fear, coexistence...my plane read was your work Cross Current! So nice to see real boating terminology and realities!

I snorkeled with a humpback and her baby off Salt Cay, Turks and Caicos and her eye will forever be embedded on my soul. I get it.

Early 90s a boy and I set off down Baja in a topless Jeep but had no idea how entranced we would be or how rugged some parts were. Got to Bahia Concepcion, ran out of time and have since wondered about the viability of taking a long slow drive post-ssiling.

We, too, give only experiences and, for the kids, National Geographic, to ensure their curiosity.....

Thanks for the tromp down memory lane. Enjoy it all! J

I envy you that Galapagos trip! Thanks for the kind words about getting it right with the boating terminology. That's so important for me and when I read books that don't get it right, it drives me nuts.

aloha. Happy trails. I’m down in Baja now — trying my hardest to finally learn how to wing foil. i’m right in the beach in La Ventana. I too made eye contact with a whale— A humpback that came to the boat — i stuck my head over board with a mask. the full grown whale came over and looked directly at me. the best eye gazing ever.

I’m sure you’ll be in Kenya before you know it.

cheers and keep on living the good life. it’s always worth the time.
